Updated Portfolio Page is Here

I recently finished an exploration of technologies to create a portfolio and settled on hosting on Github pages with a Bootstrap template.  It will be a hot minute before I get the template between www.darianhickman.com and my portfolio page  https://darianhickman.github.io/  in sync but here it is:

I think I just discovered I hate modern web design.

Way too many tech stacks for basic sites exist to do the same thing with marginal advantages.   I've been on Blogger reluctantly for several years now.  I watch the cooler templates pass by while my decently fast serving and free choice with custom domain stays in the early 2000's.   I just built a Portfolio page using Wix and the studio app is dismally slow to load items.  I got excited about the AI to figure out a design automatically.  I'm skeptical of the page speed after it's done with pages.  Then I noticed that even the basic paid version keeps Wix ads on your page. I also am trying out Wordpress hosted on Wordpress.com and it's slightly cleaner experience but I'm struggling to get the portfolio page I want.  I had to dig through templates to figure out how to make the top nav appear. No blog tool seems to intelligently adapt to the image dimensions I add. Both Wordpress and Wix crop photos very strangely when I add them to a Portfolio template. G

Village the Game: Village Makeover

Village Makeover is the main effort of Village the Game to promote innovations that help millions of people leave poverty behind. Play and donate to great nonprofits all inside the game.

Village the Game "Kenya"

"Kenya" is a 2009 prototype of Village the Game directly inspired by Monopoly. Darian built this purely in html, javascript. The prototype is no longer publically available.

Hovering Apple

Darian saw an image of a clear Rubik's cube with an apple floating in the middle during a worship service in 2013. Primarily an art project, this image is a render from a complete 3D model developed in Solidworks.

Dick Tater

"Dick-tater" originated from joke where a good friend always giggled everytime she hear the word "dictator" on the news. Can you guess which dictator is on the "dick-tater"?

[DR Congo] What is God up to in DR Congo?

I originally prayed and wrote about this 3 years ago and since then it has grown more true. October 2013 An underestimated man can show an underestimated country how to rise to the top. More than 400 years before Moses, there was born a king that no one could recognize. This king held the key to the survival of a nation.  As a young boy, this uncrowned king received a dream of who he was to become. He knew who he was destined to become but his brothers hated him for it and sold him into slavery. This king’s name was Joseph. From king to slave overnight, Joseph may have had doubts about his prophetic gift. I wonder: how did Joseph know to not give up?  He was sold as a slave to foreigners by his own family, yet Joseph continued with his prophetic gifting until one day he caught the notice of the King of Egypt.   The enemy wanted Joseph to believe that his gift was a curse, afterall it landed him in slavery.  However, Joseph prevailed over this fear.  Joseph interpreted

Insightful talk on Politics and Christian Culture from Kris Valloton

Confession: I usually wince when church leaders start talking about politics.  This talk from Kris Valloton delineates the responsibilities of Church and Government when it comes to defining or influencing culture.  I agreed with the talk a lot more than I expected. http://podcasts.ibethel.org/en/podcasts/god-government-and-prosperity

President Obama's Accomplishments and Republicans.

Things I’m grateful for during Pres. Obama’s administration: I once got denied coverage because the insurance company claimed my shoulder injury was a pre existing condition.  Pres. Obama fixed that.   Obamacare subsidizes all forms of contraception meaning millions of unwanted pregnancies and therefore millions of abortions won’t happen.   By banning discrimination against sex orientation or gender, he’s kept the government from managing our bedrooms or managing our marriages.  As a Libertarian I love that. Pres. Obama didn’t start any new wars with Iran, or North Korea, saving us trillions of dollars and thousands of lives. Pres. Obama didn’t shut down stateside oil extraction and pushed hard on renewables and right now I’m enjoying super cheap energy costs.  The more we don’t need the Middle East the more safe our nation will be.   He’s addressed the targeting of Black Americans and Police Accountability better than any political leader I can imagine.  Multiple po
